OUR COMMUNICATION TO CUSTOMERS

|
GlaxoSmithKline, the
second largest drug manufacturer in the world, wants
to stop you from buying your medicine from Canada.
DON'T LET THEM TAKE
AWAY YOUR FREEDOM TO CHOOSE!
|
February 4, 2003
Dear Customer:
Starting January 21, 2003, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has refused to supply its products to any Canadian pharmacy that fills prescriptions for customers in the United States. In essence, they want to shut us down. They want to make more money at your expense. They want YOU to have no option but to pay the highest drug prices in the world.
Don't let this happen.
Your right to
affordable medicine in is DANGER.
You need to take
action — TODAY.
PROTECT YOURSELF and your family, even if you don't use Rx drugs made by GSK.
If you use GSK drugs, we will be able to fill your orders (at current prices) for some time as we have a good stock of GSK-made pharmaceuticals on hand. But you must act now — no matter what company makes the drugs you need — because we are convinced that if GSK gets away with this, the other big drug manufacturers will follow their lead.
GSK would have you believe that buying prescription drugs from Canada "…puts patients at risk." We all know that Canada has a Gold Standard drug regulatory system. Millions of Canadians take the same drugs as their American friends, but Americans simply pay too much.
GSK's real concern is the risk to their shareholders.
It's PROFITS vs. PEOPLE.
GSK CEO J.P. Garnier and Chairman Sir Christopher Hogg open their 2002 report to investors with three words: "Strong Profit Growth."
GSK made $8.8 billion (pre-tax) in 2001, its first year as a merged company. But they want MORE. So they've decided to squeeze the people who can least afford it. They want to make sure that Americans who have no drug plan are forced to pay the highest prices in the world!
SAY "NO" to corporate bullying.
Join others who are raising their voices to say "NO" to this blatant profit grab at the expense of your health and well-being.
Make your voice
heard. Loudly. Clearly.
And
soon.
Here's what YOU can do.
1. Tell GSK
to put PEOPLE before PROFITS
Call GSK's toll-free consumer line at 1 888 825-5249. Then press "3" and follow the instructions. Or write to Jean-Pierre Garnier, CEO, GlaxoSmithKline, 5 Moore Drive, PO Box 13398, Research Triangle Park, NC 27709. And, if you can, copy your elected representatives and the media.
2. Make sure
YOUR voice is heard
·
Call CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox.
·
Call your local media.
·
Mail or e-mail your Senators at www.senate.gov
·
Mail or e-mail your Member of Congress at
www.congress.org
·
Or call the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at
(202)224-3121 and ask for your Senator's and/or Representative's office.
Tell them your story. Let them know how important it is to you and
your family that you have the freedom to choose to buy your medicine at a price
you can afford.
3. HIT THEM
WHERE IT HURTS
GSK sells a number of consumer
products that you should reconsider buying in light of their anti-U.S. consumer
policy:
· Nicoderm · Nicorette
· Macleans · Aquafresh
· Citrucel · Contac
· Gaviscon
· Tums
· Ecotrin · Eno
And if you or your pension plan hold(s)
GSK stock, now would be a good time to reassess the holding. If profits are the
only thing GSK cares about, then hit them where they'll feel it.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. Thanks for your business. And congratulations on
defending your right to affordable medicine.
Sincerely,

W. R. (Billy) Shawn
President
P.S. Yes, we have a vested interest in this
issue because we supply your drugs and we make a profit. But isn't it interesting that when we do it,
we can make a profit, the drug company can make a profit and you can still save
money?
